It’s Time to UpLevel!
Business owners and job seekers, it is time to “UpLevel” and step up our game! The Internet changed everything. The hiring landscape has turned upside down. Everybody is now a free agent. But are we changing our game to meet the challenge?
LevelUp!
To “UpLevel”, is to increase capacity or capabilities. To raise the bar. To set a new higher standard. When it comes to your company, livelihood or your occupation, is it time to UpLevel?
Business Owners
Is it time to UpLevel your organization? Is it time to finally address your “people-strategy”? Is it time to look at your entire hiring, onboarding and management processes to ensure you’re hiring the right people and cultivating them into and through a nurturing, growth environment?
Did you know that every night when your employees are at home on the internet, your competition is trying to recruit them away from you? Yes, targeted job ads directed specifically to your employee are bombarding their social media screens.
Employees
Your “livelihood” (job, employment, etc.) absorbs more than 50% of your available time in each 24-hour day. Something that is so central and predominant to your world better be worth it!
So is it..?
Is the value you derive from your livelihood more than enough to outweigh the investment that you put into it, in terms of time, blood, sweat and tears?
Does your livelihood fulfill you?
What we do for a living had better be more than just a mere exchange of money for time. Because THAT will wear thin after a few months. Just like the brand new car that you wash and keep pristine for the first two weeks of ownership… Three months later there are McDonald’s French-fry wrappers, receipts, and a variety of other garbage items strewn about. There better be something more driving this exchange in order to sustain you. That is why the typical job/employment tenure this day and age has dropped so dramatically. In many cases, after only 18-months, folks are looking for their next landing spot – because they’re not fulfilled.
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” ~ Steve Jobs
Job seekers and employees need to realize that it’s not just the company’s fault that they’re not fulfilled. They must assume the responsibility of knowing what their own personal value system is, and making sure that any company that they seek a job with is a good fit for that. And that can be hard to determine, but in most cases job seekers ask what the starting pay is and if they’re satisfied, don’t dig much deeper; money isn’t enough.
The best time to look for a new job, is when you don’t “need” one. In today’s fast-paced marketplace, everyone is available. All opportunities must be kept in front of us. We are all free agents. So as you keep going along doing a great job for your current employer, it never hurts to keep your eyes and ears open and keep central to your thoughts: What are your core values (beyond money) and do you see an opportunity out there in the marketplace that might be better aligned with them?
That is UpLeveling!
